OUR PROJECTS

PROJECT 1: FREE RESOURCE GUIDE

We’re creating a free, comprehensive online guide to make it easier for people to find and connect with the support they need. The guide brings together up-to-date information on recovery-related services across Washington State, including:

  • Health care (mental health, physical health, and addiction care)

  • Basic needs (food, clothing, hygiene, housing, transportation)

  • Health insurance navigation

  • Employment and education resources

  • Legal assistance

  • Family and youth support

  • Accessing care and navigating resources

In addition, we’re developing a dedicated Inpatient & Residential Treatment Guide — a focused directory designed to help individuals and families compare treatment programs across Washington. This specialized resource will include details on admission criteria, insurance acceptance, program features, and firsthand feedback from people who’ve experienced treatment.

Together, these guides aim to create a trusted, easy-to-use platform that helps people in Washington find effective, compassionate, and evidence-based recovery support.

PROJECT 2: VIDEO LIBRARY FOR HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS

Some people think one stay in a treatment center is enough to recover—but real recovery takes time, support, and different kinds of care.

We’re making anonymous videos that illustrate what recovery really looks like over time. Everyone’s path is different, but recovery often includes things like therapy, medication, and strong support from others. By sharing real stories, we hope to help people picture their own journey and feel more confident building a plan that works for them.

We’re working with Dr. Tessa Steel, an ICU Doctor and researcher at the Harborview Medical Center, to share these videos with people who are hospitalized. Our goal is to help more people connect to care that can change—and even save—lives.

PROJECT 3: WASHINGTON STATE RECOVERY NETWORK

We’re building a powerful, statewide network of people in recovery—one we can quickly mobilize to influence policy, support research, improve treatment, and amplify recovery voices across Washington.

Join us anonymously and get texts or emails about opportunities to get involved.  We don’t ask for any personal health information—just your preferred method of contact, such as an email address or phone number.

You may be invited to:

  • Join research studies

  • Meet with lawmakers

  • Speak at public hearings

  • Fill out surveys

  • Join focus groups

  • Share your story with hospitalized patients

  • Support someone newly out of the hospital

We welcome all people, all stories, and all recovery paths—whether you’re abstinent, cutting back, or simply want to share your experience. Every voice matters.

PROJECT 4: VOICES OF RECOVERY: COMMUNITY MEETING

In February 2027, we’ll host an evening that brings two worlds together — the medical community and the recovery community — in the same room.

It’s a night of connection, collaboration, and celebration — a time to celebrate the progress we’ve made and move progress forward by sharing lived experience with those working hard to improve care.

Healthcare providers and researchers will share the latest developments in treatment and research, along with new opportunities for collaboration and participation. People with lived experience will have the floor to share their stories, perspectives, and insights—helping bridge understanding, reduce stigma, and inspire continued change.

If you're interested in attending and/or presenting, please email rachel@voices-of-recovery.org.
